Alysha & Jeff: From Maui to Matrimony

black and white holiday party couple

We sat down with Alysha who gave us the scoop on her husband Jeff, how they met and the circumstances that took them to the next stage of their lives.

How did the two of you meet?

We actually meet online. We went on one date and had a wonderful time but for some reason the timing wasn’t right. A couple of months later, Jeff replied to a picture I had posted on social media. He then asked if he could take me on another date and the rest is history. Coming back into each other lives months later, really showed me that everything happens for a reason.

When did you know he was the one?

There wasn’t one specific moment that I just knew, I think it was a bunch of little moments. We both share a huge passion for travel. When we did our first trip together, I was a little nervous. Traveling can definitely bring out a different side in a person. It’s been said if you really want to get to know someone, travel with them. He was the perfect yin to my yang. When things got stressful, we were able to find the humor and enjoy all the ups and downs that can come while exploring the unknowns in a new country. I saw his compassion, curiosity, and love for exploring and wanting to understand new cultures. Seeing all of this made me fall even more in love with him. He also lets me be me. My goofy self, at times insecure self, myself at my best times and at my worst times. I knew he came back into my life for a reason, and I couldn’t do life without him. He’s also one hell of a cook. ; )

How did the proposal go down?

We had just flown into Maui for an annual trip we do with my mom. The next morning, he woke me up early to go get coffee and watch the sunrise. I didn’t think anything of it, as it was something we would do and a perfect way to start out our vacation. He insisted on going to put our feet in the water before we grabbed coffee. Standing there watching the sunrise with our feet in the water, he mentioned he was going to grab our nice camera and take a photo. As I turned around to see what was taking him so long, he got down on one knee and asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Dropping everything I had, my hands went over my mouth as I started to cry just shaking my head yes. I hadn’t even seen the ring and when he was finally able to show me, I just started crying again. It was perfect. Little did I know that hiding behind a palm tree was my mom, watching from afar. Jeff had also asked his family to fly all the way out from Denver and San Francisco to join the celebration. It’s a moment that still brings tears to my eyes.

Tell us about the ring?

It’s AHHH-MAZING!! It’s everything I have ever wanted in a ring and is completely me. I have received so many compliments and have been asked if I designed it or picked it out. I love being able to tell people my fiancé did it all, with some help along the way from Erin. They nailed it!!
